Tests and test results

Please phone for test results after 2.00 p.m. The receptionists are only able to pass on the doctor’s comments on your results.  They are unable to give further advice.

If the result needs discussion, you will be asked to make an appointment with a doctor (this can be a telephone appointment).

Please allow five working days for blood test and urine test results.

Blood tests recommended by the doctors are usually done by the phlebotomists on Monday to Thursday mornings and Friday afternoon. Whilst the phlebotomists are experts at taking blood samples, they are not nurses and are unable to offer any other type of health care.

Our practice nurses will take blood samples if required urgently, but it is important that we do not use up nurse’s appointments with routine blood tests.

Please call the Children’s Unit on 02921 847 957. Patients need to make an appointment with the ward between 08:30 and 10:30 to present for paediatric phlebotomy clinic at the Starfish children’s outpatient department, Noah’s Ark hospital, UHW. Clinic times are: Monday to Thursday 09:00 to 12:00.

Any samples need to be sent to the hospital by early afternoon, so please bring samples to reception by midday, in the plastic bag provided by the doctor.

Evening appointments are generally unsuitable for blood tests, swabs and urine samples.

Our Health Pod (blood pressure machine) is situated in Waiting Room 2 where you can take your own blood pressure and pass the reading to a member of reception.

The Main X-Ray Department is open between 09:00 – 17:00 at UHW, Monday to Friday.  The doctor will send an electronic referral to the department who will contact you with an appointment. Alternatively you can telephone 029 2074 4564 for information on your referral.
